The website features an interactive map of blueways in South Carolina that allows users to easily search for a water adventure based on criteria such as skill level, location, and duration of trip. The online map includes listings of trips ideas and waterways across South Carolina as well as resources that will help paddlers navigate such as coastal tides and river flow gauges. The website will be updated with additional content on a regular basis and currently includes descriptions of 63 waterways, 108 trip listings, 390 points of interest, and 612 river accesses.
In an effort to inform the public about the stunning failure of the nuclear reactor construction in South Carolina, two public interest groups filed a complaint about the project with the South Carolina Public Service Commission (PSC). With the filing, the groups aim to break the silence of decision makers about further cost overruns and massive rate hikes that loom as the project unravels.
The Greenville Zoo is celebrating the birth of two Amur leopard cubs. Born April 29, the cubs are the first offspring for parents Jade and Nelkan. Jade is the zoo’s seven-year-old female and Nelkan is an 11-year-old male that was imported from Zoo Hoyerswerda in Berlin, Germany as part of the Amur Leopard Species Survival Plan (SSP). Jade was transferred to the Greenville Zoo in 2011 from the Potawatomi Zoo in South Bend, Indiana. Nelkan was imported and transferred to the Greenville Zoo specifically to breed with Jade. He arrived at the zoo in November and the two were introduced on January 18.
The City of Greenville has hired a team of consultants from Woolpert; Brown and Caldwell; and Vaughn & Melton to develop a Comprehensive Stormwater Master Plan to address flooding and water quality improvements for the Reedy River Watershed and the city as a whole. Field work will begin this month and is expected to continue through the end of the year. While survey crews will be working in several different areas throughout the city to collect data, efforts will be focused in the Laurel Creek Watershed, which includes Verdae, CUICAR, and the Woodruff Road area, to start.
