Georgia Interfaith Power & Light (GIP&L), the Georgia group dedicated toengaging communities of faith in stewardship of God's Creation, has selected Alexis Chase as the new Executive Director.  Chase was chosen from a talented pool of candidates to lead the organization as it establishes itself as the primary group providing leadership and resources to spiritual leaders from all denominations wishing to practice creation care.

“We are delighted that Alexis will step into this important role,” said Rev. Woody Bartlett, founder and chair of the GIP&L board. “She has the experience and passion to effectively lead us into the future.  We feel very fortunate to have found someone who has the religious background to relate to other ministers coupled with a real commitment to making stewardship of our precious planet a main cause for people of every faith.”

GIP&L is the local chapter of the Interfaith Power & Light movement.  It serves as an advocacy group and educational resource for any faith group pursuing creation care as part of its practice.  Originally operating under the auspices of the Southern Alliance for Clean Energy (SACE), GIP&L recently established itself as a 501(c)(3) non-profit with an independent board of directors.  Chase originally joined GIP&L as Director for Communications and Outreach in the Fall of 2008.  She has served as Interim ED since Katy Hinman left the organization last year to pursue ordination in the Methodist church.

“I am looking forward to continuing to push faith communities as they explore the tie between stewardship of the earth and their faith,” stated Chase.  “GIP&L is well positioned to lead the effort to speak to power and foster changes in behavior that must occur for our planet to continue to support us.  It’s a vital conversation for every congregation and I’m excited about the role GIP&L will play.”
