Georgia Interfaith Power & Light hosted their annual GIPPYs at Young Israel of Toco Hills Synagogue. The standing room only event hosted two speakers and of course the winners of the GIPPYs. The keynote speaker was Rev. Sally Bingham founder of the national Interfaith Power & Light organization. Also announced was the new GIPL logo (pictured right). Expo West! If you are in the natural foods industry, there is nothing left to say. For everyone else, Expo West is the largest natural foods tradeshow in the country and when they say large, they mean ginormous. Expo West had a 7.2% increase in attendance this year. Over 71,000 people showed up for the conference and expo. All the exhibit halls, ballrooms and the arena at the Anaheim Convention Center and the all the ballrooms at the Hilton and Marriott were taken. Most of them booths.
Southeast Green attended several seminars and New Hope Media's version of Shark Tank called Pitch Slam. New Hope Media identified the top major trends which included the Paleo movement. You can check out the blog that was written while en route to the show about Paleo.
The 3rd Annual Legislative Luncheon co-hosted by the Green Chamber of the South and Southeast Green brought about the theme of fluid and flexibility. With a delay in the Legislative Session due to weather the luncheon speaking line-up was malleable. However, all the speakers made it and with a full plate of issues the agenda was packed. The monthly Green Chamber of the South Green Wednesdays in February featured a tag team presentation by the Ray C. Anderson Foundation and the Georgia Conservancy. Harriet Anderson Langford and Allie Kelly presented about the joint project entitled the Zero Mission Highway. The Zero Mission Highway is the first of its type in the country that takes a radius along a stretch of highway which has already been designated as the Ray C. Anderson Memorial Highway and will be working to enact sustainability projects all along the highway including offsetting the carbon emitted by vehicles passing along the corridor. A cold early February morning was the setting for the announcement that green building leader the Epsten Group has achieved LEED double platinum status. The home offices in the historic MLK Sweet Auburn district are right on the corner for the new Altanta Street Car turn and hosts an impressive amount of green building techniques. Rutherford and Laura Turner Seydel hosted Dr. George Luber and Dr. Rajendra Pachuari at EcoManor to have a discussion about the latest IPCC Version 5 report on Climate Change.
