This was the third year of the Southeastern Corporate Sustainability Rankings. Hosted by Green Business Works, the event has grown to where every state has three finalists. Take a minute to think about that. The rankings cover six states and they are all in Southeast. Congratulations to all the winners. To read the ceremony in order start at the bottom and read up.

  • Coca-Cola polled internally their employees. They ranked sustainability as one the most important values to them.
  • There is a Champion Circle this year and the inductees are - Coca-Cola and UPS
  • UPS is the regional winner
  • North Carolina winner - Bank of America
  • North Carolina finalists - Bank of America, Hanes Brands Inc, Nucor
  • South Carolina Winner - Sonoco
  • South Carolina finalists - AVX, Denny's, Sunoco
  • Winner for Florida - Carnival Corporation
  • Florida finalists - Carnival, Office Depot, Royal Caribbean
  • Georgia Winner - UPS
  • Georgia finalists - Mohawk, Coca-Cola, United Parcel Services
  • Tennessee finalists: Buckeye Technologies, Eastman, FedEx
  • Regions recycled enough paper to save 150,000 trees #treetuesday
  • Alabama's finalists: Adtran, Regions Financial, Vulcan
  • Scana won the Energy category
  • Scana has recently partnered with Boeing where the new plant will be 100% renewable energy
  • Here come the awards...new category Energy Companies: Scana, Duke and Nextra are the finalists
  • Both quantitative and qualitative items were measured
  • 175 ESG metrics are measured for the rankings
  • Companies are getting much better at communicating their CSR efforts
  • Alabama and South Carolina lag
  • Florida has the largest number of reporters with Georgia comes in second
  • This year everyone reported!
  • Last year over 200 companies reported nothing on CSR.
  • Over 250 companies participated in this year's rankings
  • Mark Callaway - we have hit critical mass in regards to sustainable investing
  • One in eight dollars is now in invested with CSR in mind
  • Morgan Stanley has just announced that it is creating a CSR platform
  • We need to reinforce sustainability as a fiduciary responsibility.
  • Al Gore's investment company wrote a paper this called Sustainability and Capitalism
  • Sustainability is complex and difficult to measure when looking at investment strategies
  • Each table got a topic to discuss while eating. Surprise mine was intersection of faith and corporations.
  • When the tides rise then all the boats rise. Great way to picture sustainability.
  • Unilever also asks why would you invest in a company that isn't doing sustainability?
  • Unilever sums up business sustainability. If we focus on the citizens of the world instead of shareholders, everyone wins.
  • There are companies that have executive teams working on sustainability that report directly to the C Suite
