After countless hours of watching documentaries such as Super Size Me, Unacceptable Levels, Years of Living Dangerously and others, my husband, Will and I have decided that living healthier for ourselves and the environment is now. This is our journey…
A Little Background
Will and I have been married less than a year. We are both environmentally conscious to a certain extent and know we should eat better but we’ve always been hesitant on making the changes. Will has been an automotive technician for over 13 years. I am a housewife with 2 killer work from home jobs. He is on the go all day every day while at work. He’s at work a minimum of 10 hours a day, 5 days a week. I am sedentary 90% of my time while working and in the evenings. On the weekends, we both work in the yard trying to keep the weeds at bay and the grass growing.
We have (Will has) three children aged 11-14 that we get every other weekend, 2 boys and a girl. That is our life. Every week it is the same thing - go to work, house work and chores and every other weekend the kids. We still do our household chores the weekends we have the kids.
Our First Steps
This journey is ongoing of course. And it is a slow one. We are on a tight budget for groceries and everything else we may need and want, as are most people. So throwing out all the old and buying all new is not an option. Plus, whatever money we have saved up for a bathroom remodel that I wanted by my birthday in October is now going into a bed and some other home maintenance items and bills that need more immediate attention. We ALWAYS try to save money when and where we can.
So here is our basic list. This is what we’ve chosen. It is not for everyone and I recommend that you make your own list based on your own research. I do countless hours of research on these items so that we can do the best for us and the planet with the least amount of cost incurred. We’ve already started the process of many of these but each writing will consist of more details on each item in our list. Our list may even grow the more we learn and research as well. So I hope that I can give you some valuable insight and that our journey inspires you and helps you in some way or another.
