New Worldwatch Institute report examines the growing rate of the global urban population and its social and health challenges

The world's urban population is expected to grow by 2.6 billion people between 2011 and 2050, bringing the total number of urbanites to 6.3 billion, according to new research conducted by the Worldwatch Institute for its Vital Signs Online service (www.worldwatch.org). This urban expansion will be especially burdensome for developing countries, where 82 percent of the world's population currently lives, writes report author Grant Potter.

United Fresh Sets Meetings to Shape FSMA Rule Comments

Timing allows stakeholders opportunity to hear FDA presentation, discuss with industry and respond

United Fresh will host a series of stakeholder meetings held in conjunction with the FDA public hearings on the proposed Produce Safety Rule and the Preventive Controls for Human Foods Rule. The first will be held February 27 in Washington, DC, immediately prior to FDA’s public meeting on February 28 – March 1. The United Fresh meetings will provide opportunities for fresh produce industry stakeholders to learn about and respond to the proposed rules.

The Campaign for Eco-Safe Tuna launched an international effort to promote a more sustainable approach to tuna fishing and truth-in-labeling. By educating consumers about the true nature of current tuna fishing and labeling practices, the Campaign for Eco-Safe Tuna seeks to ensure that not only dolphins, but sharks, marine turtles, seabirds, juvenile tuna and other vulnerable species, are not unnecessarily harmed during the fishing process.
