Marriott Helps 'Clean the World'

Lodging Leader Collects 1M Soap Bars and Amenity Bottles

Global hospitality leader Marriott International, Inc. (NYSE: MAR) has become an official hotel partner of Clean the World, a non-profit that collects, recycles and distributes discarded soaps and other hygiene amenities to communities in need.  With nearly 47,000 rooms (more than 200 hotels) already participating, Marriott is the number one hotel chain in the Clean the World portfolio, having collected nearly 1 million soap bars and amenity bottles and diverting more than 120 tons of waste from landfills since 2009.

"We are guests on this planet, and conservation ensures our resources are sustained for generations to come," said Denise Naguib , Marriott International's Vice President, Sustainability and Supplier Diversity.  "Our new partnership will help support our global environmental strategy while helping provide a basic need to people in our local communities and around the world."


Econo Lodge Hotels First In Economy Segment To Make It Easy To Be Green

Econo Lodge hotels, franchised by Choice Hotels International, one of the world's largest hotel companies, today announced it will be the first national economy hotel chain to promote Green practices across an entire lodging portfolio. All Econo Lodge hotels in the U.S. will implement the Choice Hotels Room to be Green (RTBG) program in 2013. The program is designed to reduce environmental impact and waste, meet the changing expectations of today's environmentally conscious guests and potentially lower operational expenses, (including energy and water costs) at the property level. 


New Award Honors Recycling Ingenuity

Excellence in EPS Recycling Award to be presented this March

The EPS Industry Alliance has created a new annual award to recognize advancements in expanded polystyrene (EPS) recycling. The Excellence in EPS Recycling Award will be presented in Cincinnati this March at EPS EXPO, the EPS industry's annual conference. The award has already received a friendly welcome from the recycling community. Matthew McKenna , President and CEO of Keep America Beautiful, Nina Goodrich , Executive Director of GreenBlue, Lisa Pierce , Executive Editor of Packaging Digest, and Patty Moore , President and CEO of Moore Recycling Associates have all agreed to be judges for the award.


Clean Wind Energy Tower, Inc. Selected as Semi-Finalist in the Future Energy Pitching Event At the ARPA-E Energy Innovation Summit


Clean Wind Energy Tower, Inc. announced that the Company has been selected as a semi-finalist at the Future Energy Pitching Event at the ARPA-E Energy Innovation Summit in Washington D.C. on Monday, February 25, 2013.  A total of eight startups will be selected to present from over 300 applicants. Six of these eight will be hand-picked by the ARPA-E Selection Committee. The remaining two pitch slots will be awarded to the two startups that get the most votes on the ARPA-E crowd-voting platform. All eight startups get to present in front of a panel of top venture capital investors and the entire ARPA-E Summit (over 2,500 attendees).


Maryland Energy Administration Announces Over $3 Million in Residential Energy Upgrades for Low and Moderate Income Marylanders

$3.32 Million in Energy Efficiency Grants Will Create Jobs and Help 4,000 Maryland Families Save Money

The Maryland Energy Administration (MEA) announced awards for the FY2013 “EmPOWER Clean Energy Communities” grant program. The program assists local governments and not-for-profit organizations to fund energy efficiency projects that are specifically designed to benefit low to moderate income Marylanders. The grants are administered by the Maryland Energy Administration (MEA), and will help 4,000 Maryland households save 1,240 MWH of electricity and more than 38 million cubic feet of natural gas each year. Overall, the energy conservation will save more than $6.9 million over the estimated life of the measures.
